Claire is a technology-enthusiastic lawyer and principal corporate counsel at Microsoft Canada, where she works on complex technology transactions and cloud computing issues. She is passionate about the transformative power of technology and consistently seeks new ways to use it more effectively (and thoughtfully) in her legal practice. Her approach to embracing and keeping pace with fast-moving innovation is further shaped by her time as an R&D product manager and her studies in change management. Driven by her enthusiasm, Claire has actively engaged with legal and technology communities over the years and continues to contribute to the evolving discourse on technology law through various professional endeavours.

Neda Esmailzadeh

Associate General Counsel, Danone Canada | EMBA Candidate 2027, McGill & HEC Montréal

Neda is a seasoned legal professional with 15 years of experience, including 9 years in-house at Danone, moving from litigation to business law. A Star Women in Grocery Award recipient, Neda champions the use of AI and automation to enhance legal value and efficiency. 

She serves as a mentor, advocates for women in leadership, and previously sat on the Board of ACC Quebec. Neda also participated as a guest speaker in The A Effect 100-Day Challenge to accelerate women’s leadership ambitions. Currently pursuing an Executive MBA at McGill & HEC Montréal, Neda brings a forward-thinking approach to law and business integration, with a strong focus on technology and AI-driven transformation.

James Kosa

Partner and Chair of the Technology, Intellectual Property, Privacy & Access to Information Practice Groups, WeirFoulds LLP

James is a partner at WeirFoulds and Chair of the firm’s Technology & Intellectual Property and Privacy & Access to Information Practice Groups. His practice focuses on information technology and intellectual property law.

James offers his clients a wealth of knowledge and experience from across the spectrum of technology issues, including the protection and exploitation of computer and software technology, IT and IP licensing, privacy, security breaches and dispute resolution. James’ depth of experience means that he is able to offer his clients clear, practical and well-rounded advice by cutting through the technical jargon. He takes the complexity of technology law and turns it into practical knowledge and advice that his clients can easily understand.

James acts as technology counsel to technology companies in a wide variety of high technology fields, including telecommunications, cloud computing and artificial intelligence companies, software development companies (traditional and agile), hosting service providers and infrastructure as a service providers. He also represents consumers of technologies with procurement and negotiation of technology services, including financial institutions, governments and government agencies, and profit and non-profit companies in traditional fields with technology needs. James has assisted in negotiating outsourcings, wide area networks implementations, major data transport arrangements, and platform and content arrangements for television, satellite and mobile platforms.

James was recognized by Lexpert as a 2019 Rising Star, Leading Lawyers Under 40. Teodora Niculae

Teodora is Senior Counsel at Mastercard and is called to the Quebec and Ontario bars. She leads legal support for sales and marketing teams across Canada and also on advises on regulatory matters. Teodora champions practical AI in the law department—building training modules, promoting responsible AI governance, and driving Copilot adoption to streamline legal workflows.
